Information about the 14th Culture Next conference! Leeuwarden, 8th – 10th July, 2025

Here we are, ready for the 14th conference of the network!

We will meet you in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, from the 8th until the 10th of July 2025.

Culture Next Network together with Arcadia is excited to invite you to the first CN conference of 2025, under the theme “Cultural Participation”. We’re welcoming you in Leeuwarden on Wednesday 9th of July and Thursday 10th of July, for the first-ever Cultural Camp, a concept inspired by the nostalgic spirit of summer camps: places of learning, connection, and fun.

SDG Thing cities, together with the Board and Executive team will join the conference from the 8th of July.

With this in mind, we’re recommending each Culture Next member to step out of their comfort zone and bring a young representative (aged 18–27) as one of the two city delegates to the conference. This person should have a background—whether academic, professional, or volunteer-based—in the cultural field. By involving new perspectives, we aim to foster an intergenerational exchange that expands Culture Next’s reach and creates a unique opportunity for young adults to begin their journey in the sector. Moreover, Arcadia seeks to engage the younger generation not just to shake things up, but also to collaborate toward Leeuwarden’s ambition of becoming European Youth Capital in 2028.

Note that third delegates are technically possible, but their participation will only be confirmed by the host city after the registration period has closed.

This summer gathering will take place during Arcadia’s peak programming, with our main venue being Bouwurk, a space built by and for the community. More than just a location, Bouwurk is an oasis of creativity, connection, and growth. It embodies the principle of mienskip (community) and provides a welcoming space where generations, ideas, and cultural expressions meet. In Bouwurk, local artists, makers, and young talents will activate the space, turning it into a vibrant hub that celebrates both tradition and innovation. It’s a place where collaborations flourish, stories are shared, and people grow together, making it the perfect setting for this new kind of Culture Next experience.
