CultureNext, are you ready for Leeuwarden? Registration is now open until 11th June 2025.
We’re excited to invite you to the first Culture Next conference of 2025, hosted in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, from 8–10 July 2025, in partnership with Arcadia.
Under the theme “Cultural Participation”, this edition marks a fresh format: the very first Culture Next Cultural Camp, taking place on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 July. Inspired by the spirit of summer camps, this gathering is designed to foster learning, connection, and shared experiences — all in a relaxed, creative atmosphere.
On 8 July, the conference will open with meetings of the SDG Thing cities, alongside the Culture Next Board and Executive team.
We encourage each Culture Next member city to step beyond the familiar and nominate a young delegate (aged 18–27) as one of the two city representatives. This person should have experience — academic, professional, or voluntary — in the cultural field. Our aim is to spark intergenerational dialogue and offer young people a meaningful entry point into the sector. This initiative also supports Leeuwarden’s bid to become the European Youth Capital in 2028, with Arcadia seeking to empower and collaborate with the next generation.
A third delegate per city is possible, but participation will be confirmed by the host city after the registration period closes.
This summer’s conference coincides with the height of Arcadia’s programming and will be hosted at Bouwurk — a unique space created by and for the community. More than just a venue, Bouwurk is a living expression of mienskip (community): a creative and inclusive environment where generations, ideas, and cultural practices come together. Throughout the event, local artists, makers, and young talents will animate the space, turning it into a dynamic hub for collaboration and innovation.
Registration is open until 6 June 2025.
You’ll find all logistical information, the detailed agenda, and the registration form below.
We look forward to welcoming you in Leeuwarden!
