The 9th Culture Next Conference, which will take place in Elefsina, Greece, between June 9-11, 2023, is open to all ECoC candidate cities that want to know more about the Culture Next Network.

Designed as a networking and inspiration space for cultural managers and public representatives in European cities, the Elefsina Conference is the perfect framework for city representatives to meet and connect with each other, and share good practices and challenges that cities are facing.

The 9th Culture Next Meeting will be held during SYNIKISMOI – A Festival, one of 2023 Eleusis key legacy projects, a festival that redefines the relationship between creator and viewer, focusing on the experiential dimension while pursuing a twofold action: the integration of art in contemporary society and the engagement of the community in contemporary art and beyond, promoting cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and greater mutual understanding.

Who can apply

The Culture Next Conferences are dedicated to the members of the network as well as the ECoC candidate cities who are interested to learn more about Culture Next, the opportunities for collaboration within the network, and the membership procedure. Participation in the Culture Next Conference for non-members is only possible once and, after that, representatives are invited to officially join the network and get actively involved in the Culture Next activities and further project meetings. For the 9th conference in Elefsina, non-member cities can register with 1 or 2 participants on their own travel, accommodation, and meals expense, to which a conference fee of 250 euros per person is added.

Registrations are open until May 14 at Midnight (CET), and all the information needed can be found here.

About Culture Next

Culture Next is an informal, friendly and relaxed network dedicated to mutual support and collaboration between European cities currently or formerly in candidacies for the European Capital of Culture title. Five years after its founding in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Culture Next involves 29 cities on the continent. Until the end of 2024, the activity of Culture Next is funded by the European Commission through the Creative Europe Programme. The general objective of the grant is to increase the capacity of Culture Next to support more candidate cities to implement ECoC programmes and, therefore, to enhance the legacy of the European Capital of Culture project.

The network has established a Board of six representatives of the member cities, intercity teams working on joint initiatives and an extended Secretariat hosted in Cluj-Napoca to take care of all operations.
