Culture Next Conference

Aveiro, Portugal
October 12-14, 2022
About Culture Next
Culture Next is an informal, friendly and relaxed network dedicated to mutual support and collaboration between European cities currently or formerly in candidacies for the European Capital of Culture title.
Five years after its founding in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Culture Next involves almost 30 cities on the continent. In 2021 the network received a 1 million euro grant from the Creative Europe programme of the European Commission to scale-up Culture Next and improve its capacity to work with more European cities.
About our Member Cities
Our members are cities or organizations representing various cities: former and future title holders, cities which continued their cultural programmes even without being selected as ECoCs and cities which intend to do this.
Many of our members represent cities which are current candidates, interested in developing European connection and sustainable cultural programmes which can be implemented independently of the jury decision.
About the Conference
The Aveiro Conference is a turning point in the development of the Culture Next network and hopefully in the history of the European Capital of Culture Project.
This is when and where we will meet all former and current candidate cities interested in formally joining, from 2023 on, a collective project dedicated to strengthening ECoC-like programmes in Europe and to innovating in cooperation mechanisms between cities and cities, cities and organizations, and cities and artists.
The Aveiro Conference is designed as a networking and inspiration space for cultural managers and public representatives in 20 European cities. We will meet and connect with the New European Bauhaus network, with the newly established EIT for Culture & Creativity, with the MESOC consortium for measurement of the social impact of culture and with the Aveiro cultural community. We will make plans for the next two years of Culture Next, discuss current projects and future membership details, and set up our cultural policy task-force.
Registration Open Until September 20, Midnight
Accommodation and travel are covered for 40 international participants from cities which are interested in Culture Next membership from 2023 on. Accommodation is fully covered by the host city, as well as all event related costs (meals included). Travel is to be reimbursed by the Network Secretariat within a cap of 150 euro per person.
Cities are encouraged to be represented by 1 or 2 persons each. If you want to apply for participation with a larger delegation, you can do this, but a 3rd person or more would only be accepted if the 40 seats are not taken by 1 or 2 person delegations.
